Light splinters

Acrylic and light installation

Szewska is working towards her most adventurous installation yet, bringing together several of her obsessions including 3D, motion, and the manipulation of light, colors, and shadows.

“Up on the roof” was inspired by a life lived at the top of tall buildings in central London. The work came about when sitting out on the roof, watching the sun move across the sky from sunrise to sunset. The ever-changing shadows and light affected the shape and color reflected across the tall glass office buildings of London.

This piece has been designed for an indoor gallery space, and Szewska is grateful to the technicians at the RCA for helping her integrate Arduino and laser cutting into her final work. She is excited about the possibilities in this medium and looking forward to developing this line of work further.
